Inspiring the next generation of interior designers

Inspiring the next generation of interior designers

We’re delighted to be collaborating with arts and education charity, spudWORKS, to inspire the younger generation through Architecture & interior design education.

Spudworks building

Earlier this month our creative director, Samantha F. Crockett, gave an exclusive talk to design students at spudWORKS, an arts and education charity based in Lymington. The talk was part of the spudYOUTH programme, which sees young designers in the New Forest collaborate with designers in Tokyo to deliver an exciting architecture and design project.

Samantha says: “Working on this has been wonderful. At Harris Jackson we believe in creating emotive spaces and memorable experiences for the worldly wise and inquisitive, so our partnership with spudWORKS on this international programme seemed the perfect fit. I grew up in the New Forest before travelling the world and designing across Asia for some of the most well-known hotel brands including Mandarin Oriental, St Regis and Langham (alongside independent boutique brands). It was fantastic to share my personal global journey & experience with the students. We focused on FF&E and exploring what goes into a space along with the spatial planning. We brought along samples including fabrics, tiles, wall coverings and lighting to inspire them and make it a really immersive session. I was really pleased to meet and work alongside Collette from PAD architects in Lymington on this too.”

spudWORKS Session 2

SPUD is internationally recognised for their projects and exists to enable the wellbeing of communities through collaboration in arts, architecture and education.

Mark Drury, Director at SPUD, says: “We’re delighted that Harris Jackson are able to support our spudYOUTH programme. It’s so important that young people get to work alongside a range of creative professionals, to broaden their horizons, explore their career opportunities and to develop new skills. The live projects we run for the young people who attend the weekly spudYOUTH workshops lend themselves perfectly to a range of professionals supporting them – our workshops simply would not be as engaging and informative without this input.  The current Tokyo project is a great example of where Harris Jackson can share their knowledge of international interior design to help the young people create fantastic design solutions.”
